Maui residents craft legislation to ban geo-engineering ('chemtrails')

(NaturalNews) The mainstream news media has been quietly releasing an increasing number of stories these days that openly admit the existence of geo-engineering programs, including accounts of various chemical and particle release programs similar to the "chemtrail" operations that those dubbed as conspiracy theorists have been warning the public about for years.

Consider this recent report in Scientific American, for instance, which speaks openly about plans in the UK for an advanced new device that will pump toxins in the atmosphere to promote atmospheric "cooling." So in response, Michael J. Murphy, co-producer of the documentary What in the World Are They Spraying?, and a large and growing group of concerned citizens in Maui, Hawaii, have created a county ordinance by which they hope to put an end to this environmental terrorism.

In a recent press release, Murphy explains that he and his team, with the help of a growing base of concerned citizens, are working to pass The Clean Sky Ordinance, a law that will ban any and all geo-engineering and chemtrail programs from taking place in the skies above Maui County.

The ordinance, which is currently being sponsored by several public officials and council members in the area, prohibits the release of aerosols and other particulates into the atmosphere without informed consent from the people of Maui County.

There was a rise in the number of cholera cases reported in May and

early June 2011, particularly around Port-au-Prince and in the

southern peninsula (Grand Anse, Nippes, Sud and Sud-Est) as well as in

Artibonite and Nord. This increase may be due in part to the beginning

of the rainy season and the flooding that hit the capital. Between 2

May 2011 and 12 Jun 2011, a total of 18 182 new cases were notified in

Port-au-Prince, where 90 percent of the 2300 beds in cholera treatment

facilities were occupied. As of 21 Jun 2011, the occupancy rate had

dropped to 72 percent.

On 12 Jun 2011, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) reported 344 623

cases of cholera and 5397 related deaths (average case fatality rate

1.6 percent) since the beginning of the outbreak in October 2010.

Poor access to clean water and proper sanitation remains the main

challenge in fighting the epidemic. Water-trucking is now down to 20

percent of what it was after the earthquake. According to the Water

and Sanitation Cluster, about 1/3rd of the non-governmental

organizations (NGOs) supporting camps in Port-au-Prince will be

closing down their water-trucking and sewage removal activities over

the next few months because funds are running out. Lack of sanitation

facilities and the maintenance of existing latrines remain critical

problems in the camps. WHO/PAHO supports all cholera treatment

facilities to ensure safe water is available for patients and

sanitation measures are respected.

According to Health Cluster partners, as of 14 Jun 2011 there were 38

cholera treatment centres and 216 cholera treatment units functioning

in Haiti. Most of the facilities are financed by NGOs. While support

continues in Port-au-Prince, many NGOs are scaling down operations in

rural areas and transferring responsibilities to the MoPH, which does

not have sufficient funds to cover health personnel.

The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) yesterday, Wed 29 Jun 2011,

called the country's cholera epidemic out of control, and asked the

Government to be more responsible in dealing with society's ample

segments of poverty.

CMD president Senen Caba also said he doubts the Health Ministry's

claims of a lower infant mortality rate.

He affirmed that there are more than 15 000 cholera cases and dozens

of deaths which haven't been properly reported, citing hospitals in

Santo Domingo, San Pedro (east), San Cristobal, Elías Pina and La

Romana as having the most patients.

Caba affirmed that on average the hospitals receive 30 cases per day.

Most of the patients reside in poor barrios in greater Santo Domingo

and several provinces.

The doctors said the evidence the epidemic has gone out of control is

that the Health Ministry has requested meetings with leaders of the

water sector.

What Are "Tesla Domes"?

Hair-raising interview with AC Griffith, discussing the covert aerosol program popularly known as "chemtrails." He says it is being run out of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and is code named "Project Cloverleaf" within the aviation industry, where he says it has now been farmed out to commercial companies.

Griffiths, who says he has held high security clearances in the past states that he obtained his information from people working within the Cloverleaf program who were "dissatisfied." His motive for going public is patriotic.

He says Cloverleaf is a Black Budget program that was originally planned during the Reagan Administration and is among the most "secretive things" that he has ever encountered.

He says the spraying of barium salts in the atmosphere relates to scalar weapons systems, which behave like powerful gravitational fields. He says the US is behind in the development of scalar weapons in comparison to other countries and that "we do not have adequate defenses against them." He says Air Alaska has frequently encountered problems, from other countries' use of scalar weapons.

Griffiths states that his investigation of chemtrails led him to several unexpected discoveries, including the actual means of
modern missile defense, which is not as it is presented. He claims that it is actually being afforded by scalar "Tesla Domes."

He also makes some scary statements about the "pre-positioning of atomic devices" in US and Russian cities...

In August 1883 the painter Edvard Munch witnessed an unusual blood-red sunset over Oslo. Shaken up by it, he wrote in his diary that he "felt a great, unending scream piercing through nature". The incident inspired him to create his most famous work, The Scream.

The sunset he saw that evening followed the eruption of Krakatoa off the coast of Java. The explosion, one of the most violent in recorded history, sent a massive plume of ash into the stratosphere, turning sunsets red around the globe. The gases emitted also caused the Earth to cool by more than one degree and disrupted weather patterns for several years.

The cooling effect of large volcanic eruptions has been known for some time. A haze forms from the sulphur dioxide spewed into the upper atmosphere reducing the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth. It's estimated that the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines in 1991 — the largest since Krakatoa — cooled the Earth by around 0.5°C for a year or more.

Now, a powerful coalition of forces is quietly constellating around the idea of transforming the Earth's atmosphere by simulating volcanic eruptions to counter the warming effects of carbon pollution. Engineering the planet's climate system is attracting the attention of scientists, scientific societies, venture capitalists and conservative think tanks. Despite the enormity of what is being proposed — nothing less than taking control of Earth's climate system — the public has been almost entirely excluded from the planning.

The Royal Society defines geoengineering as "the deliberate large-scale manipulation of the planetary environment to counteract anthropogenic climate change" and divides methods into two types: carbon dioxide removal from the atmosphere, and solar radiation management aimed at reducing heat coming in or reflecting more of it out.

Techniques ranging from the intriguing to the wacky have been proposed to remove carbon from the atmosphere, including fertilising the oceans with iron filings to promote the growth of tiny marine plants that absorb carbon dioxide, installing in the ocean a vast number of floating funnels that draw nutrient-rich cold water from the deep to encourage algal blooms that suck carbon dioxide from the air, and construction of thousands of 'sodium trees' that extract carbon dioxide directly from the air and turn it into sodium bicarbonate.

Some of the ideas put forward to block the Sun's heat would be far-fetched even in a science fiction novel. One is to send billions of reflective discs to a point in space known as L1 and located between the Earth and the Sun. Another is to launch hundreds of special unmanned ships that plough the oceans sending up plumes of water vapour that increase cloud cover. Or dark-coloured forests could be converted into light-coloured grasslands that reflect more sunlight.

Enhanced dimming

But the option that is taken most seriously is altogether grander in conception and scale. The scheme proposes nothing less than the transformation of the chemical composition of the Earth's atmosphere so that humans can regulate the temperature of the planet as desired. Like volcanic eruptions, it involves injecting sulphur dioxide gas into the stratosphere to blanket the Earth with tiny particles that reflect solar radiation.

Various schemes have been proposed, with the most promising being adaptation of high-flying aircraft fitted with extra tanks and nozzles to spray the chemicals. A fleet of 747s could do the job. To have the desired effect we would need the equivalent of one Mount Pinatubo eruption every three or four years. The emissions from the eruption in April of Iceland's 'Mount Unpronounceable' were less than a hundredth of those from Pinatubo, so to engineer the climate we'd need the equivalent of one of those every week, every year for decades.

More cautious scientists recognise that attempting to regulate the Earth's climate by enhancing global dimming is fraught with dangers. Most worryingly, the oceans are absorbing around a third of the extra carbon dioxide pumped into the atmosphere by humans, which is raising their acidity, dissolving corals and inhibiting shell-formation by marine organisms. Turning down the dimmer switch may reduce incoming solar radiation but would do nothing to slow ocean acidification. The climate system is hugely complicated and tinkering with it might be akin to introducing cane toads to control sugarcane beetles.

Moral hazards

Although ideas for climate engineering have been around for at least twenty years, until recently public discussion has been discouraged by the scientific community. Environmentalists and governments have been reluctant to talk about it too. The reason is simple: apart from its unknown side-effects, geoengineering would weaken resolve to reduce carbon emissions.

Economically it is an extremely attractive substitute because its cost is estimated to be "trivial" compared to those of cutting carbon pollution. While the international community has found it difficult to agree on strong collective measures to reduce carbon emissions, climate engineering is cheap, immediately effective and, most importantly, available to a single nation.

Among the feasible contenders for unilateral intervention, one expert names China, the USA, the European Union, Russia, India, Japan and Australia. Could they agree? It's like seven people living together in a centrally heated house, each with their own thermostat and each with a different ideal temperature. China will be severely affected by warming, but Russia might prefer the globe to be a couple of degrees warmer.

If there is no international agreement an impatient nation suffering the effects of climate disruption may decide to act alone. It is not out of the question that in three decades the climate of the Earth could be determined by a handful of Communist Party officials in Beijing. Or the government of an Australia crippled by permanent drought, collapsing agriculture and ferocious bushfires could risk the wrath of the world by embarking on a climate control project.

To date, governments have shunned geoengineering for fear of being accused of wanting to avoid their responsibilities with science fiction solutions. The topic is not mentioned in the Stern report and receives only one page in Australia's Garnaut report (see Section 2.4.2). As a sign of its continuing political sensitivity, when in April 2009 it was reported that President Obama's new science adviser John Holdren had said that geoengineering is being vigorously discussed as an emergency option in the White House, he immediately felt the need to issue a "clarification" claiming that he was only expressing his personal views.

Holdren is one of the sharpest minds in the business and would not be entertaining what is now known as 'Plan B'— engineering the planet to head off catastrophic warming — unless he was fairly sure Plan A would fail.

Fiddling with the dimmer switch may prove an almost irresistible political fix for governments. It gets powerful lobbies off their backs, gives the green light to burn more coal, avoids the need to raise petrol taxes, allows unrestrained growth and is no threat to consumer lifestyles.

In short, compared to cutting greenhouse gas emissions, geoengineering gets everyone off the hook. No government is yet willing to lend official support to geoengineering. However, the pressure is building and the day when the government of a major nation like the United States, Russia or China publicly backs Plan B cannot be far off. Then the floodgates will open.

Even now, beneath the radar, Russia has already begun testing. Yuri Izrael, a Russian scientist who is both a global-warming sceptic and a senior adviser to Prime Minister Putin, has tested the effects of aerosol spraying from a helicopter on solar radiation reaching the ground. He now plans a full-scale trial.

Strangelove and son

Two of the earliest and most aggressive advocates of planetary engineering were Edward Teller and Lowell Wood. Teller, who died in 2003, was the co-founder and director of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory near San Francisco, described by US author Jeff Goodell as having a "near-mythological status as the dark heart of weapons research". Teller is often described as the "father of the hydrogen bomb" and was the inspiration for Dr. Strangelove, the wheelchair-bound mad scientist prone to Nazi salutes in Stanley Kubrick's 1964 film of that name.

Lowell Wood was recruited by Teller to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and became his protégé. For decades Wood was one of the Pentagon's foremost "weaponeers", leading him to be christened "Dr. Evil" by critics. He led the group tasked with developing Ronald Reagan's ill-fated Star Wars missile shield that included plans for an array of orbiting X-ray lasers powered by nuclear reactors.

Since 1998 Wood and Teller have been promoting aerosol spraying into the stratosphere as a simple and cheap counter to global warming. Reflecting the dominant opinion of the 1950s, they believe it is humankind's duty to exert supremacy over nature. It is perhaps for this reason that they have long been associated with conservative think tanks that deny the existence of human-induced global warming. Both men have been associated with the Hoover Institution, a centre of climate scepticism partly funded by ExxonMobil, and Wood is listed as an expert with the George C. Marshall Institute, a Washington think tank that became one of the main centres of climate denial in the 1990s.

It is strange that geoengineering is being promoted enthusiastically by a number of right-wing think tanks that are active in climate denialism. The American Enterprise Institute, an influential think tank also part-funded by ExxonMobil that offered US$10,000 to academics for papers debunking the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, has launched a high-profile project to promote geoengineering.

Of course, geoengineering protects their supporters and financiers in the fossil industries because it can be a substitute for carbon reductions and justify delay. But a deeper explanation lies in their beliefs about the relationship of humans to the natural world.Pursuing abatement is an admission that industrial society has harmed nature, while engineering the Earth's climate would be confirmation of our mastery over it — final proof that, whatever minor errors made on the way, human ingenuity and faith in our own abilities will always triumph. Geoengineering promises to turn failure into triumph.

Lowell Wood believes that climate engineering is inevitable; it's a matter of time before the 'political elites' wake up to its cheapness and effectiveness. In a statement that could serve as Earth's epitaph, he declared: "We've engineered every other environment we live in—why not the planet?"

Wood is contemptuous of the ability of world leaders to reduce emissions (which he dubs "the bureaucratic suppression of CO2") and of their ability to reach a consensus on trialling geoengineering. He predicts that necessity will overrun popular resistance to the idea of fiddling with the atmosphere.

Faced with this resistance, Wood speculates about getting private funding from a billionaire for an experiment. "As far as I can determine, there is no law that prohibits doing something like this". Wood is right: there is no law against a private individual attempting to take control of the Earth's climate.

Regulating climate regulation

This goes to the heart of the push to develop the tools for climatic manipulation. The debate over climate engineering is at present confined largely to a tight-knit group of scientists, some of whom want to keep the public in the dark and fend off regulation of their activities. In his book, How To Cool the Planet, Goodell describes a series of three private dinners in early 2009 that brought together the main players. Convened by two of the leading advocates, Ken Caldeira of Stanford University and David Keith of the University of Calgary, they were "a turning point in the evolution of geoengineering as a policy tool".

In March this year a private meeting of leading climate engineers,held in Asilomar, California, aimed to develop guidelines to govern research and testing. The invitees wanted a voluntary code of conduct that would forestall regulation by governments and the international community so that the experts could work unhindered at their task of understanding how to control of the Earth's climate system.

David Keith argues that an international treaty may be unnecessary because the use of solar radiation management could be regulated by unwritten "norms". This is despite his acknowledgement that the threat of unilateral action is very real; any one of a dozen countries could begin it within a few years. Indeed, one wealthy individual could transform the atmosphere and, with enough determination, bring on an ice age.

Perhaps the wealthy individual he has in mind is Bill Gates, who has covertly been funding geoengineering research for three years with advice from Keith and Caldeira. They now oversee Gates' research fund, which has spent some $4.5 million to date, including funding the three private dinners. Keith will not reveal what the money is being spent on, downplaying it as "a little private funding agency". Right—the world's richest man has a little private funding agency devoted to researching ways to manipulate the Earth's climate system. Conspiracy theory anyone?

Gates is also an investor in a firm named Intellectual Ventures that is promoting a scheme called "StratoShield", which would pump sulphur dioxide into the upper atmosphere through a 30-kilometre hose held aloft by V-shaped blimps. Intellectual Ventures is run by Nathan Myhrvold, former chief technology officer at Microsoft, and includes Lowell Wood among its associates.

Gates is not the only billionaire lone ranger who wants to save the planet. Richard Branson has set up his own "war room" to do battle with global warming. The battalions he wants to mobilise on "the path to victory" are successful entrepreneurs—like himself—and their weapons are "market driven solutions to climate change", including geoengineering.

The Carbon War Room — where inspirational quotes from Branson are mixed in with those of other titans like Churchill, Roosevelt and Einstein — represents the type of rich man's folly common amongst modern entrepreneurs with a Messiah complex.

The War Room site promotes a paper co-authored by Lee Lane of the American Enterprise Institute and published by the centre run by "skeptical environmentalist" Bjorn Lomborg. It argues that the benefits of geoengineering vastly outweigh the costs and shows how to set an optimal temperature for the Earth for the next two hundred years.

The authors worry that ethical objections from environmental advocacy groups may block the deployment of solar radiation management, before noting with relief, "in reality, important economies remain largely beyond the influence of environmental advocacy groups." They expect deployment of solar radiation management will be led by nations with weak environmental lobbies—which of course means dictatorships.

Blue-sky dreaming

More vivid sunsets like the one Edvard Munch saw in 1883 would be one of the consequences of using sulphate aerosols to engineer the climate; but a more disturbing effect of enhanced dimming would be the permanent whitening of day-time skies. A washed-out sky would become the norm.

If the nations of the world resort to climate engineering, and in doing so relieve pressure to cut carbon emissions, then the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would continue to rise and so would the latent warming that would need suppressing. It would then become impossible to call a halt to sulphur injections into the stratosphere, even for a year or two, without an immediate jump in temperature.

It's estimated that, if whoever controls the scheme decided to stop, the back-up of greenhouse gases could see warming rebound at a rate 10-20 times faster than in the recent past, a phenomenon referred to, apparently without irony, as the "termination problem".

Once we start manipulating the atmosphere we could be trapped, forever dependent on a program of sulphur injections into the stratosphere. In that case, human beings would never see a blue sky again.

Pat McReynolds from CBS and his camera man came to interview Roxy Lopez for a couple of hours on February 10th at there home in Arizona. Roxy and her husband Steve poured coffee and openly discussed there backgrounds such as living in Seattle, the music and entertainment business (Roxy and her hubby are in the industry), the band 'Queensryche' and the tour "Operation Mindcrime", & Deadliest Catch (because Roxy's hubby Steve is a 24 year veteran to the Crab Fishing industry). Both Pat and the CBS camera man wished there 'significant others were present' so they too could share in this conversation and of course meet them. Pat mentioned his wife would "corner Steve if she ever had the chance because she is a BIG "Deadliest Catch" fan."

Coffee and celebrity style conversation. But wait, they were there to interview Roxy Lopez from The Truth Denied about Geoengineering/Chemtrails. Were they at the right house?

STUDIES AND DOCUMENTS GIVEN TO CBS

Roxy broached the subject of chemtrails and took out some files and some photos. Files included The infamous H.R. 2877 Act entitled "Space Preservation Act of 2001", and H.R. 2420 Space Preservation Act of 2005 (a 2005 continuation of the H.R. 2877 introduced in the House 109th Congress) that addresses electronic,phsychotronic information weapons, chemtrails, high altitude ultra low frequency weapons systems, chemical ,biological, environmental, climate, or tectonic weapons, etc. Roxy Lopez also presented the John Hopkins’s advanced academic programs such as "Master of Science in Energy Policy and Climate that addresses programs and academia regarding for students learning climate control studies, as well as some of the Agriculture Alert-Action Items regarding Weather Modification Bills set for passage early 2009 such as U.S Senate Bills 1807, 2191, 3036, and U.S House Bills 3445 and draft bill by congressman Dingell. Included in these were the Climate Security and Climate Change Legislation which also address Cap & Trade Bills which apparently will be more Stock market oriented designed as Cap & Trade Bills under the heading of climate security acts. They even offered up the World Meteorological Organization Documents, otherwise known as WMO Documents on weather modification approved by the Commission for Atmospheric Sciences Management Group, that detail "Purposeful augmentation of precipitation, rain and snow enhancement, fog reduction, etc. This document addresses a number of issues associated with hundreds of weather modification programs, as well as the scientific status of weather modification programs currently in place.

Roxy also addressed the patents associated such as Patent #6315213-Method of Modifying Weather, 6056203 Method and apparatus for modifying super cooled clouds as well as Patent# 6382526 Process and apparatus for the production of nano fibers. She mentioned USDA Farm Agency Crop Loss Adjuster Rosalind Peterson and her discoveries and reports on GeoEngineering, former Arizona Senator Karen Johnson, and Michael Murphy and his film "What in the World are They Spraying?” She mentioned California's Doctor Staninger's views on "weaponized mycoplasm Vs. Nanotechnology. Caroline Carter of Cyprus's work on Morgellons Disease. Roxy also referred to NOAA and the countless Weather Modification programs at there disposal, NASA, EPA, and a government application document known as Owning the weather by 2025.

Roxy Lopez made sure to send in an email most of the above mentioned, her website which includes all of her radio interviews on www.thetruthdenied.com with hosts such as Jerry Pippin, Dr. Bernard Alvarez, Nightwatch, her You tube channel which depicts the controversial Chem Web lab tests and Pinal Airpark which is really a highly guarded facility known as Evergreen Inc., located on the public "bone yards" front entrance.

QUESTIONS ON CAMERA

Moving along, the "Chemtrail" interview was filmed with Pat McReynold's asking Roxy Lopez a series of questions on camera, while Steve (hubby) filmed the CBS interview in it's entirety as a back up of sorts. All seemed to go well, and they had time to film and one last piece in there back yard, where Roxy and Pat shake hands and Pat asks the question " Is there anything else you would like to add Roxy?", and Roxy Lopez puts out her hand to shake his, and says "Yes, Pat. I would like to thank you so much for doing this interview "and sincerely added ”Pat, maybe you can get some answers, or at least start the conversation with our public officials", to which Pat replied "I will do my best".

It was a wonderful clear blue sky in Arizona, and they bid there goodbyes outside of there home , wishing them a safe journey back and luck with the investigation. Pat said he would be in touch and he would let us know when the piece was going to air on the CBS News, as well said "Please don't release anything you guys filmed today until I find out if it's okay to do so on You Tube or a documentary".

Of course Roxy Lopez honored these requests, and thusly has the entire footage of the interview backed up and safe. The Truth Denied has not released it to the general public. AND, it holds the truth of the enitre CBS on camera interview.

TODAY: February 24, 2010

On the evening of February 23, 2010, CBS aired the taping of the Roxy Lopez interview on the news, as well had a written article on the CBS. Roxy Lopez was never contacted by Pat McReynolds regarding the filming that happened in there home, neither received any responses from Pat regarding information she had sent to him via his email address Pat.McReynolds@kpho.com. The article and video he did seems quite one sided to most, although he did bring up one great point.

"Every contrail is just good old-fashioned airplane exhaust, and that's all it is," said Verdaglio.
You'll get the same answer from NASA, NOAA, the FAA, the EPA, and the Air Force. All of these federal agencies say chemtrails are bogus."

This response is actually the truth, whether you are an inquiring mind, a general citizen, a chemtrail/geoengineering activist, an attorney, etc. You will get the same blanket clause answer.

“I see the obvious. We could all point fingers at CBS journalist Pat McReynold's and claim he did not do his homework, regardless of how much evidence was given to him by both www.thetruthdenied.com and www.ArizonaSkyWatch.com. It is most unfortunate that a journalist of 18 years in the making knew that THIS door was closed before it could even be opened. Obviously, this reporter’s hands are tied.

Way back in thr 1970s, The United Nations ruled these weather weapons were illegal & forbidden. These weather machines play with the ionesphere. They can cause earthquakes, droughts, floods, hurricaines – just about anything you want the weather to do against whomever you want the weather to do it.

Unfortunatley, no one seems too interested in exploring these Weather Weapons of Mass Destruction, though I consider them more dangerous than nukes because people literally do not know what's hitting them. They tend to believe that only God can control the weather.

This year, Students for a Democratic Society supports the month-long call to action in March and is calling on students nationwide to take action on March 2nd of 2011. We believe that education is a right, not an economic privilege for the advantaged. We demand and fight for a university that is for everyone! We believe big administrators on campus should cut their own pay checks instead off raising our tuition. We say “Chop from the Top!”; cuts should be made to the bloated salaries of those on top. Front-end staff should not have to endure layoffs and furloughs. We also unite with the demands coming out of Arizona where programs like Ethnic Studies are at risk; these programs are NOT expendable. We want student, worker and faculty control over our universities; we should be in control of our own futures and lives.

We also have significant concerns that should be paid attention to this year. While education is under attack, while the U.S. government maintains war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan, while the Egyptian people opposed and ousted a regime that the U.S. government has propped up for so long, activists here are facing jail time for opposing U.S. foreign policy. Anti-war activists and international solidarity activists, including one woman from SDS, have been subpoenaed before a grand jury for an investigation of “material support to terrorism”. These accusations are meant to scare and intimidate people away from speaking out against the government, and highlight the importance of continuing to organize and protest. We will not see our futures crumble to these scare tactics and we will fight back against them!

Finally, we see the actions students are taking all over the world, such as in the United Kingdom and Italy, and we are inspired by their courage and determination.

SDS is calling on chapters to organize and take action on March 2nd, 2011. When people come together and demand change, a better world is possible. Strike, rally, walkout, occupy, sit-in, teach-in, leaflet, or table! Whatever you’re doing we want to hear about it! Make March 2nd a day to remember. Education is a right, now is the time to fight!

Yesterday/2/11/02 there was a massive spray campaign going on over Southwestern Wisconsin. The signature X's and cross hatched tracks were being laid down and the clouds that resulted bore the HAARP Wave signature pattern/striation. I checked the Gakona AK HAARP induction magnetometer site, and found that they have it running full blast, just as they did before the Tsunami, the Haiti quake, and Katrina.

Hi Folks,

I watched an airshow(LOL)of biblical proportions over southeast WI yesterday. I was in a hirise building close to Mitchell airport and could clearly distinguish commercial traffic from the all white chemical tankers. With regular traffic calmly easing in and out of the airport the skies above were infested with chemtrail planes numbering about ten to twelve "swipes" every fifteen minutes. I couldn't tell if it was the same planes doubling back or whether there was actually a force of thirty planes operating at any given moment. It is important to understand that we have had virtually no sun around here in three weeks and on the first clear day we get body slammed! In the morning it was clear calm and peaceful and by the time I got on the road at 4pm the sky was a disaster area.

All of that being said I would have to conclude that this particular operation is similar to what I have seen many times over the years. They advance ahead of a weather front, concentrate on the body of water (Lake Michigan)and do whatever Frankenstein moves they make ala the atmospheric microwaving. It seems to me that their favorite trick is a counter-clockwise rotation over Lake Michigan. So , right on cue, we are due for 20 inches of snow from the northeast in the next few days.

The other completely astounding thing to me was that this all happened in a busy public area, ten floors up, in front of multiple picture windows and I was the only one who had a clue that this was not normal. I have never fully understood the phenomenon of collective ignorance-passivity syndrome as clearly as I now do. God help us.

If this country ever has its "Egyptian" moment it will be immense and course changing indeed. If the citizens ever realize that much of their ongoing misery is due to government intervention and manipulation look out. PHOENIX - She might be retired from political life, but former state senator Karen Johnson is not retired from being an activist. After serving in the House of Representatives for eight years and the senate for four, Johnson retired in 2008 to her home in Linden where she now has time to garden and become more active in issues that concern her.

One of these issues took her on a recent trip back to the state capital to try to bring the subject of chemtrails and geoengineering to her former colleagues, including Governor Jan Brewer and Senator Sylvia Allen who is from Snowflake.

Taking several people active in the chemtrail debate with her, Johnson visited the House, the Senate and Governor Brewer's offices, dropping off packets that contain the DVD "What in the World Are They Spraying," and articles and information on the subject.

The documentary was produced by G. Edward Griffin, Michael J. Murphy and Paul Wittenberger. Griffin is a writer and documentary film producer with many successful titles to his credit. Listed in Who's Who in America, he is well known for tackling difficult and controversial topics and presenting them in clear terms that are easy to understand. One of his most popular books is titled "The Creature from Jekyll Island."

The video attempts to answer the question of what is being sprayed in our skies and why. The answers they find are extremely disturbing. The producers visited Johnson at her home in Linden and she became part of the documentary. According to the website www.suite101.com
"Research indicates that the trails are part of a geoengineering program that may already be in its initial implementation phase. Scientists at the Carnegie Institution are using taxpayer money to lay the groundwork for injecting the atmosphere with materials they believe will artificially cool the planet, in a bid to stave off what we are told is modern civilization's greatest threat to date, anthropogenic global warming."

Mike and Bridget Conroy of Phoenix were also a part of the group and have spent years researching the chemtrail issue and conducting air samples. Their website, www.arizonaskywatch.com, tracks their work with pictures, articles and lab reports.

Though it was moving day and most legislators were not in their offices, the group met with Senator Allen for a few moments in her office. Senator Allen stated that she has been getting calls from her constituents on the issue and is interested in taking a look at the packet.

Other members of Johnson's group included friends Dinah Lundell and Doug and Judy Staab. A reporter from the Capitol Times newspaper was also there to do a short interview with Johnson.

Johnson managed to find a few other officials including Kevin Kinsall who works for Brewer in Environmental Quality. He took the packet and said he would review it and get back to Johnson.

Senator Cecil Ash from District 18 also promised to look into the issue. He is Chairman of the Health and Human Services committee.

Governor Brewer was not in her office, but staff members were handed the packets and asked to pass them on to their legislators. Johnson hopes that enough of them will become interested in the information to start a public dialogue on the issue. She also would like to see Arizona declare the state a "no-fly zone" for chemtrail spraying.

"The data found from the producers shows that one of the chemicals being sprayed is aluminum oxide which is toxic to all life," said an angry Johnson. "Alzheimer's has increased rapidly since they started spraying in the late 1990s."

Despite the fact that the chemtrail spraying has reportedly been going on since around 1998, there is little official recognition of the issue and in most cases out right denial. Johnson hopes that by bringing attention to the issue, it can be forced out into the open before too much damage is done.

(a) Prohibited activities The Secretary of Defense may not conduct (directly or by contract)- (1) any test or experiment involving the use of a chemical agent or biological agent on a civilian population; or (2) any other testing of a chemical agent or biological agent on human subjects.

(b) Exceptions Subject to subsections (c), (d), and (e) of this section, the prohibition in subsection (a) of this section does not apply to a test or experiment carried out for any of the following purposes: (1) Any peaceful purpose that is related to a medical, therapeutic, pharmaceutical, agricultural, industrial, or research activity. (2) Any purpose that is directly related to protection against toxic chemicals or biological weapons and agents. (3) Any law enforcement purpose, including any purpose related to riot control.

(B) Such terms include exotic weapons systems such as--

(i) electronic, psychotronic, or information weapons;

(ii) chemtrails;

(iii) high altitude ultra low frequency weapons systems;(iv) plasma, electromagnetic, sonic, or ultrasonic weapons;

(v) laser weapons systems;

(vi) strategic, theater, tactical, or extraterrestrial weapons; and

(vii) chemical, biological, environmental, climate, or tectonic weapons.

(C) The term `exotic weapons systems' includes weapons designed to damage space or natural ecosystems (such as the ionosphere and upper atmosphere) or climate, weather, and tectonic systems with the purpose of inducing damage or destruction upon a target population or region on earth or in space.

H.R. 2977 was re-written and the revised bill, H.R. 3616, the "Space Preservation Act of 2002", was introduced on January 23, 2002. The word "chemtrails" was deleted from the revised bill as well as any reference to particle beams, electromagnetic radiation, plasmas, ELF, ULF, or any mind control technologies.

Apparently, Congress wants to continue "legally" using chemtrails and other weapons of mass destruction against their constituents and the people of Earth.

The military is empowered to continue lethal experimentation by devious wording of Section 1520a Chapter 32 of U.S. Code Title 50. The law states that the Secretary of Defense may NOT conduct any chemical or biological test or experiment on civilian populations, unless such tests are for medical, therapeutic, pharmaceutical, agricultural, industrial purposes or for research in general or for protection against weapons or for law enforcement purposes, including riot control. So DOD may not use us for guinea pigs, unless it is for any "good" reason under the sun! The law states that human subjects must give informed consent. But a nasty loophole in Section 1515 of Chapter 32 allows informed consent to be suspended by executive order during a period of national emergency, a situation under which this nation perpetually labors by deliberate hobgoblin design.

Most of the houses along Washington Highway and Berryman Drive have taken down their Christmas lights, but are now sporting green or yellow icicles. The sides of houses are splashed with a deep brown substance and sidewalks are also spotted with the stuff.
Residents say the material appeared between 9 a.m. and midnight last Tuesday.
Initial suspicions focused on "blue ice," the frozen human excrement known to fall from passing jetliners, but the FAA investigated and quickly dismissed that possibility.
"The local flight standards inspectors investigated the situation and determined it was not from an aircraft," FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac told ABC News.
The Amherst Town Supervisor's Office said that they are looking into the situation.
"We have contacted our emergency services people and we also have a waste water treatment plant in town and the interim engineer for that is trying to get the debris tested," said Lisa Kistner, a spokeswoman for the town supervisor.
One resident provided Kistner with her own theory.
"We received a call this morning from a woman who owns a house on the same street, Washington Highway. She gave us her explanation because it happened to her last year," Kistner said.
"She said it's actually because the seagulls eat fast food at McDonald's, which upsets their digestive tract. They were eating French fries out of paper bags... As soon as she got the fast food restaurants to make sure all of their trash was cleaned up in their parking lots, she no longer had that problem," Kistner said. "She suggested that someone check the fast food parking lots because that is probably the root cause of this issue."
Bird experts who have seen pictures of the goo agree that they resemble bird droppings.
"The splotches we see on the siding are consistent with what we would expect from a large flock of birds such as European starlings, a species that is found in large numbers in upstate New York at this time of year," said Miyoko Chu, a spokesperson for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology after looking at video of purple splotches on house sidings.
But after seeing additional video showing green and yellow gunk on homes, Chu was baffled.
"More recent footage shows larger areas of greenish yellow wash, and we do not know what that is," she said.
Chu wasn't so sure about the French fry-eating seagull theory.
"The size of the droppings would suggest to me that it's a smaller bird than a seagull. Small numerous droppings on siding are not what you expect to see from seagulls, which are larger birds," she said.

Ten people have died reportedly from an unknown disease in remote
villages along the Owen Stanley Range in Northern [Province?], The
National reports [see ].
This has caused panic and a health concern among other villagers and
[in] nearby areas, as the disease causes extreme swelling to various
parts of the body, then they die.

Public servants, who live in Port Moresby, were recently in these
villages for the Christmas and New Year festive season and witnessed
this disease.

In the Fafia local level government of Musa, 10 villagers in Upper
Musa along the 2 main rivers had contracted the disease, causing the
Middle and Lower Musa people to fear for their lives because of the
risk of infection.

The symptoms include painful swellings from the legs, which then
spread to the arms and hands, the stomach and then the head before it
kills the person.

Musa villagers are concerned because there was a lack of medical
personnel to attend to those affected. "The health facilities, such as
the buildings that are there, are rundown. They have been [in] that
state for the past 12 or so years," one public servant said. He said
because of this and the lack of drugs, there were no health workers
around. Leaders in Middle and Lower Musa villages are now requesting
officials from the provincial and national health authorities to
investigate.

They are fearful that the disease may be water-borne as they are
located downstream from the affected area, and that the water may be
contaminated with bacteria. The source said the inability to get
medical assistance to these people was a case of negligence and
ignorance by the provincial government. "This also applies to other
basic services such as setting up and running a school in this area."

[Outbreaks of mysterious illnesses in remote regions of Papua New
Guinea have been reported by ProMED-mail in the past. At times, these
illnesses have been attributed to influenza, dysentery, and cholera.
The news release describes the current illness as painful swelling
that starts in the legs and then spreads to the arms and hands, the
abdomen and finally the head before it kills the person. Swelling that
starts in the legs (possibly dependent edema), and then involves the
abdomen (possibly ascites) and finally the face, suggests kidney
disease.

Neither the presence of fever, respiratory symptoms such as shortness
of breath, nor diarrhea are mentioned as part of the clinical picture.
The local populace is said to think the illness is infectious and
possibly water-borne; exposure to a toxin is not mentioned. The region
lacks the resources to readily diagnose the illness. ProMED-mail would
very much appreciate confirmation of the clinical presentation and
information on the results of investigations of these reported
undiagnosed deaths in Papua New Guinea.

Hundreds of dead snapper have washed up on Coromandel beaches, leaving
holidaymakers perplexed. People at Little Bay and Waikawau Bay, on the
north east of the peninsula, were stunned when children came out of the sea
with armfuls of the fish and within minutes the shore was littered with them.

A resident, whose family have lived at Little Bay for the last 30 years,
said she had never seen anything like it. "It was so surreal," she said.
"It's such an incredible waste -- it could've fed the whole northern tip of
the Coromandel."

People with binoculars said the snapper stretched as far as they could see
and boaties reported "a carpet of floating fish further out to sea all
along the coast".

"We initially thought 'woohoo a free feed' but they had really cloudy eyes
and you could see the birds had been at them. Some of them had no eyes,"
the Little Bay resident said.

Her parents called the Department of Conservation and were told it was most
likely the fish had starved due to weather conditions, but Pearsall did not
think that was the case as many of the fish looked big and healthy. The
Fisheries Ministry are currently investigating the situation and said they
could not yet say what the cause was.

"Any commercial operators must record and report their catch," said

it's not in anybody's interests for fish to be abandoned at sea."

Mikkelsen said it had happened before but given the quantity of fish it was
very concerning. People saw floating snapper in the water as early as 5:00
am yesterday [4 Jan 2011] but the ministry only received reports 12 hours
later. Mikkelsen urged people to get in touch as soon as they saw anything
amiss.

[Surely some of these fish have been sent to a laboratory for proper
necropsy and testing. I might suggest red tide, but there have no reports
of red tide this time of year near New Zealand. Hopefully we will have an
authoritative report soon.

A county veterinarian has speculated that the birds that fell from
the sky in central Sweden on Tuesday [4 Jan 2011] may have been
frightened by fireworks, then run over by a car after landing on the
road in the dark. Shortly before midnight on Tuesday, residents found
50 to 100 jackdaws on a street in Falkoping southeast of Skovde. The
incident echoed a number of unexplained incidents earlier this week
across the southern US.

"We have received information from local residents last night. Our
main theory is that the birds were scared away because of the
fireworks and landed on the road, but couldn't fly away from the
stress and were hit by a car," he explained to The Local on Wednesday
[5 Jan 2011]. He added that they likely had difficulty orienting
themselves in the dark and although they have received one report
involving a vehicular collision with the birds, ter Horst believes
they may have been hit by more.

The site where the birds were found has now been blocked for a
veterinary inspection of the birds. Emergency services had cordoned
off the area earlier on Wednesday [5 Jan 2011] .

Anders Wirdheim of the Swedish Ornithological Society (Sveriges
ornitologiska forening, SOF) believes the jackdaws likely were
frightened in the middle of the night, then flew around in the dark
and collided with various objects. "Jackdaws spend the night in trees
in large flocks. If they are frightened, hundreds of birds could take
flight at once," he told TT.

Wirdheim noted that the affected bird species in the [recent mass
bird die-off in Arkansas] US are also those who spend the night in
large flocks. He added that the birds' situation may have aggravated
because they are weakened.

"This winter has been unusually tough and jackdaws may be in poor
condition. That makes it easier for them to fly into different
objects. There is very little food in the wild compared with previous
years and I see dying birds every day," he said.

The cause of death of the jackdaws found dead on the streets of
Falkoping, in central Sweden, was external force, not infection or
disease, showed the autopsy completed on Wednesday [5 Jan 2011]. 5 of
the dead birds were autopsied by the National Veterinary Institute,
(Statens veterinarmedicinska anstalt, SVA) and results showed that
the birds had died of acute blunt force.

According to Marianne Elvander, zoologist at SVA, the jackdaws were
killed by severe internal bleeding. None of the birds showed sign of
infection or illness.

"Our assessment is that they weren't carrying any contagious disease,
but figuring out exactly what did kill them, other than being some
sort of external force, is rather outside our area," said Olov
Andersson, SVA's information officer, to TT news agency.

"What comes to mind is that they may have flown up, and been hit, or
something of the sort," he speculated, a theory defended by most experts.

The birds may have been frightened by something in the middle of the
night, flown about blindly, and died in collisions with different
objects in the dark.

[Jackdaws (Corvus monedul) are dark plumage passerine birds in the
same genus as crows and ravens. They live in large flocks near urban
areas, coming to roost together in trees at night.

Both this Swedish mass bird die-off and the recent incident in
Arkansas over the New Years holiday has been proven to be caused from
trauma. Both incidents show similar patterns in that it happened at
night during extreme weather conditions in birds that roost in big
flocks. When startled, the birds fly off blindly and hit other
objects and crash to the ground. There are possibly more incidents
like this which are unrelated, occurring locally around the world but
are under reported. The international news coverage has raised the
public's awareness, and so more incidents are likely to be reported.

Power line blamed for bird kill in Louisiana

Louisiana's state wildlife veterinarian says at least some of an
estimated 450 birds that died near Baton Rouge may have flown into a
power line.

Jim LaCour said Tuesday [4 Jan 2011] the grackles, starlings,
brown-headed cowbirds and red-winged blackbirds had broken beaks and
backs. He says some live birds had broken wings but ran too fast to catch.

The bird deaths Monday came a few days after about 3000 blackbirds
fell from the sky in central Arkansas. Scientists there say
celebratory fireworks on New Year's Eve likely sent the birds into
such a tizzy that they crashed into homes, cars and each other before
plummeting to their deaths. Officials say such massive wildlife kills
are not uncommon.

Remembering The Ocean Ranger

Ocean Ranger was the worlds largest semi-submersible mobile offshore drilling unit that sank in Canadian waters on 15 February 1982. It was drilling an exploration well in the Grand Banks area, 267 kilometres (166 mi) east of St. John's, Newfoundland, for Mobil Oil of Canada, Ltd. (MOCAN) with 84 crew members on board when it sank. There were no survivors of the accident.

The vessel was approved for 'unrestricted ocean operations' and designed to withstand extremely harsh conditions at sea, including 100-knot (190 km/h) winds and 110-foot (34 m) waves. Prior to moving to the Grand Banks area in November 1980, it had operated off the coasts of Alaska, New Jersey and Ireland. The joint Federal-Provincial Royal Commission on the Ocean Ranger Marine Disaster found that the crew were not trained, the safety equipment was inadequate, there were no safety protocols for the supply ship, and that the rig itself had a number of design flaws

Supreme Bullshit: The High Courts Stripping Away of the EPA

I was jus diddlin round on the net doing various research projects when I stumbled cros this old article about the Supreme Court and the EPA, and as I read it over it struck me how very similar the sound of it all was, relative to the current wild horse (and burro) situation with the BLM today. (My annotations in red.)

Supreme Court Limits the Endangered Species Act

WASHINGTON, DC, June 25, 2007 (ENS) - In a 5-4 decision today, the U.S. Supreme Court today limited the obligation of federal agencies under the Endangered Species Act to ensure that their actions do not jeopardize federally listed threatened or endangered species.

In two combined cases - EPA v. Defenders of Wildlife and National Association of Home Builders v. Defenders of Wildlife - the court reversed an appeals court decision that required the U.S. EPA to consider the protection of listed species before handing Clean Water Act permitting authority over to the states.

The Clean Water Act requires that the EPA transfer permitting powers to the states if nine criteria are met.

The Endangered Species Act, ESA, requires that a federal agency must consult with other relevant agencies to ensure its actions do not jeopardize the continued existence of any endangered species or threatened species.

The question resolved by the court ruling is whether the ESA consultation requirement is effectively a tenth criterion on which the transfer of Clean Water Act permitting power must be based. The majority concluded that it is not.

Delivering the majority opinion, Justice Samuel Alito wrote, "The transfer of permitting authority to state authorities - who will exercise that authority under continuing federal oversight to ensure compliance with relevant mandates of the Endangered Species Act and other federal environmental protection statutes - was proper. We therefore reverse the judgment of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit."

This is the case that "sped up" the "resource development" processes, as it did away with the necessity of compliance to certain provisions of the EPA, provisions that were meant to give PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT Considerations a top priority BEFORE any development action could be taken. In effect, what this ruling does is NULLIFY that provision of the EPA, allowing development to proceed without any environmental impact studies. Justice John Stevens saw the error in this ruling and expressed it in his DISSENTING Opinion;

"The Endangered Species Act (Think Wild Free-roaming Horse & Burro Act of 1971) works in harmony with other federal mandates and should not be trumped by other federal laws without the express direction of Congress." (Hello! Thank you Judge Stevens for being the wiser one and seeing through the BS in this case. If ever we do sue the BLM for their NULLIFICATION of the Wild Horse and Burro Act,....I hope the case will be heard by YOU!)

Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife said, "Today�s decision, while unfortunate, should apply only to a very narrow category of actions by federal agencies - actions compelled by the terms of another federal law - and should not be read as a broad abrogation of the authority of the Endangered Species Act."

Expressing the view that the majority opinion, "ignores the clear intention of Congress when they enacted the Endangered Species Act," Schlickeisen said, "We are concerned that the Court�s decision, combined with the Bush administration�s clear history of undermining the effectiveness of the Endangered Species Act, could lead to additional extinctions of American wildlife - extinctions which the Act is intended to prevent."

National Association of Home Builders President Brian Catalde was pleased with the ruling.

"This decision recognizes that we must always maintain a balance when we look at environmental regulations. We can't say that the Endangered Species Act is an 'uber-statute' that should slow down regulatory decisions under the Clean Water Act even as we recognize that both laws concern issues that are vital to preserving this earth for the next generation."

"This decision also tells us that the U.S. Supreme Court is helping to preserve housing affordability by striking down efforts at unnecessary, duplicative regulation," he said.

"Forcing the EPA to issue discharge permits in Arizona, which an unfavorable Supreme Court decision would have required," said Catalde, "would have cost builders more time and money, making homes less affordable in affected areas."

In the case of one protected species in Arizona, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimated that Endangered Species Act consultations delayed the typical development by five to 18 months and, when added to the cost of onsite mitigation and project modifications, cost between $1.7 million and $2.7 million, said Catalde.

Oil Industry Looks to Forestry Folk for Advice on How to Deal w/ Enviros

Oil industry players have been sniffing around the landmark Boreal Forest Agreement between industry and environmental groups, says one of the agreement’s architects.

Avrim Lazar, who head the Forest Products Association of Canada, says he’s fielded inquiries from senior civil servants, executives and oil industry associations about how the forest industry got together with its one-time adversaries.

“They’re saying: What were you thinking? How did you do it? What’s working, what’s not working? What would your advice be?” Lazar said in an interview Thursday.

"It seems like very honest, good faith curiosity.”

The forest agreement was signed in May between the forest companies and a coalition of environmental groups who had fought the industry bitterly for decades, and boycotted their products.

Under the pact, the 21 member forest companies agreed to suspend new logging on 29 million hectares of forest. Environmental groups agreed to end their boycotts.

The signatories set themselves a three-year target to set up detailed, working agreements in areas such as developing more sustainable harvesting practices and protecting wildlife and water systems.

Oil and gas officials, while expressing interest, are skeptical that a similar process could work in their sector, says Lazar. “Who wouldn’t be? I was skeptical when I started.”

“All that being said, there are pieces of the model which are very importable,” Lazar said.
“A precondition of having a constructive conversation is acknowledging the legitimacy of each other’s public interest.”

That means environmentalists would have to stop calling oil sands extraction “an abomination that has to be stopped,” and acknowledge that the oil industry is going to operate in the sands.

“We’re not debating that. We’re debating how, and at what pace and under what conditions.”
The oil industry, for its part, must say: “We recognize that over time this degree of greenhouse gas intensity, this degree of effluent in the water, this disturbance of biodiversity, is not going to be acceptable. We know we have to be quite a bit better. It’s a question of how, and how fast.”

“Once you have those two, then you have something to talk about. You can go to problem-solving mode…It doesn’t become easy, but it becomes possible.”

Lazar says progress is continuing toward fleshing out the boreal forest agreement.

A panel on acceptable forest practices has been established, for example: Each of the three members was agreed to by both. The panel’s recommendations must be accepted in whole by both sides, unless there’s a fundamental disagreement.

A working group is pursuing protocols for protecting caribou habitat and migration routes.

But hurdles remain. The agreement was negotiated at a national level, but many areas lie within provincial jurisdiction. First nations groups were not part of the pact; their participation is now needed.

And vast cultural changes must take place. Forest industry managers, for example, were always rewarded for extracting every last scrap of fibre from a given area. That must change.

2. All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. 3. All programs promoting War and the technology behind those must cease. There is no sense in advertising weapons of mass-destruction anymore. 4. Civilization must be exposed for the filth it is. That, and all its disgusting religious-cultural roots and greed. Broadcast this message until the pollution in the planet is reversed and the human population goes down! This is your obligation. If you think it isn’t, then get hell off the planet! Breathe Oil! It is the moral obligation of everyone living otherwise what good are they??

5. Immigration: Programs must be developed to find solutions to stopping ALL immigration pollution and the anchor baby filth that follows that. Find solutions to stopping it. Call for people in the world to develop solutions to stop it completely and permanently. Find solutions FOR these countries so they stop sending their breeding populations to the US and the world to seek jobs and therefore breed more unwanted pollution babies. 6. Find solutions for Global Warming, Automotive pollution, International Trade, factory pollution, and the whole blasted human economy. Find ways so that people don’t build more housing pollution which destroys the environment to make way for more human filth! Find solutions so that people stop breeding as well as stopping using Oil in order to REVERSE Global warming and the destruction of the planet!

7. Develop shows that mention the Malthusian sciences about how food production leads to the overpopulation of the Human race. Talk about Evolution. Talk about Malthus and Darwin until it sinks into the stupid people’s brains until they get it!!

The world needs TV shows that DEVELOP solutions to the problems that humans are causing, not stupify the people into destroying the world. Not encouraging them to breed more environmentally harmful humans.

Saving the environment and the remaning species diversity of the planet is now your mindset. Nothing is more important than saving them. The Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels.

Flow Rate Technical Group reports that the well initially was dumping
62 000 barrels of oil per day after the spill and that it dwindled to
53 000 barrels when it was capped as the well was depleted. This
means that approximately 4 million barrels were released into the
Gulf [net after 0.8 million were captured by BP tankers - Mod.JW].

US Environmental Protection Agency releases a study of 8 dispersants
which concludes that Corexit 9500 "is generally no more or less toxic
than mixtures with the other available alternatives" and that
"dispersant-oil mixtures are generally no more toxic to the aquatic
test species than oil alone."

[Article [1] gives a tally of wildlife killed by the oil slick, which
is possibly only the tip of the iceberg since there was no systematic
survey and many corpses probably sank without a trace. But it also
gives some encouraging news about the probable swift recovery of fish
and oysters -- providing consumers do not shun seafood of Gulf Coast
origin through misguided fears that it may not be fit for human consumption.

The BP oil spill ranks as the 2nd-worst in world history, behind the
Kuwaiti oil fires in 1991, which released as much as 336 million
gallons [8 million barrels at 42 US gallons crude per barrel] into
the Persian Gulf. One has to wonder how long it took for the sea life
there to recover -- does anyone have any data?

Another fish kill fuels debate over what's causing wildlife deaths

In all her years walking the Pass Christian beach, [a resident] said
Thursday [5 Aug 2010] morning was different. "I've really never seen
this many seagulls. I walked this beach for about 5 years and it's
really phenomenal. It's beautiful to see, but it's unusual," said Alley.

It didn't take long to figure out what had attracted all the birds.
WLOX (Radio station for South Mississippi) saw massive dead fish on
the beach and in the water, along with crabs and sting rays.

Department of Marine Resource (DMR) officials said it was the 3rd
fish kill reported to them in recent months. DMR officials sent a
team out to take samples from a fish kill, but they said they already
had a good idea of what happened.

"When we see real warm water, which is what's happening, we have low
oxygen conditions," said Joe Jewel, DMR Assistant Director. "That's
what we're attributing to the fish kills that we're aware of right
now. Warm water, low oxygen, that's what's causing these fish kills."

Two commercial fishermen told WLOX they don't believe the heat is
enough to cause as many fish kills as we've been seeing in our area
lately. They say it's just not normal. Instead, they blame chemical
dispersants for robbing the water of oxygen.

Jewell said, "What is unusual is that we have the oil spill. We have
a lot of citizens that are concerned about the oil. They're concerned
about that relationship, but our scientists out there investigating
these fish kills and the DEQ has scientists that are out there."

"They're taking water samples and oxygen samples and what we can
determine right here at this point is that it's not related to the
oil," said Jewell.

DMR officials continued to stress that their tests show the seafood
is safe to eat and they will continue to run tests.

[It is unlikely at this point in time that the oil spill or the
dispersants had anything to do with the fish kill. It is much more
likely that there is red tide, or hot water causing the problem.
While it is difficult to believe that the water temperature of the
ocean can change, it does, and the waters of the Gulf of Mexico are
especially warm anyway. The Gulf region has been plagued this summer
with extremely high temperatures and the normally warm water is even
hotter than usual.

Hopefully the appropriate samples will get taken and disease will
either be ruled in or ruled out. - Mod.TG]

Gas Industry Faces The Dangers Of Fracking

Politicians want to regulate the use of hydraulic fracturing in oil and gas wells. If the industry is smart, it will reform on its own.

HOUSTON -- Last week the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection shut down some operations of natural gas driller Cabot Oil & Gas after 8,000 gallons of toxic chemicals were spilled on the ground and into a creek in Susquehanna County.

Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas ( COG - news - people ) says a hose ruptured during a process called hydraulic fracturing, a method used to break apart tight rock formations, allowing gas to escape, in which a million gallons of water mixed with sand and chemicals are shot down a well under immense pressure.

More than 80% of all wells drilled in the U.S. today use some kind of "fracking." And in the Marcellus basin, a shale rock formation that stretches across Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and West Virginia, usage is more like 100%. Without the high flow rates created by the frack, the gas wouldn't be economical to go after. With the fracks, geologists figure the Marcellus has more than 50 trillion cubic feet of gas, enough to meet all of U.S. needs for two years.

But can hydraulic fracturing be trusted? This wasn't Cabot's first fracking fracas. Pennsylvania's DEP cited the company last February for contaminating wells used for drinking near drill sites.

In a 2007 case unrelated to Cabot, an Ohio house exploded from what state regulators determined was a buildup of methane bubbling up water pipes from wells polluted by drilling operations. Nineteen neighboring homes were evacuated. Last April at least 10 cows died in Louisiana after drinking fracking chemicals collected at a drilling site operated by Chesapeake Energy ( CHK - news - people ).

So what's in this stuff? Hydrochloric acid, solvents, surfactants, petroleum-based lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, microbe killers. Basically, it's a lot of the same carcinogenic chemicals found in household cleaners like Formula 409 and Drano.

Most of the fracking fluids are recovered from the gas wells, stored in ponds, transferred to tanks and trucked to processing plants. Most wells are drilled away from and much deeper than drinking water sources. But it only takes a few mishaps to destroy public faith.

It's vital that the oil and gas industry voluntarily implement tougher standards on the implementation of hydraulic fracturing, the recovery of chemicals from wells and the safeguards to avoid contaminating groundwater with chemicals of any kind. Or politicians will let the Environmental Protection Agency do it for them.

In June, the FRAC Act (Fracking Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals) was introduced simultaneously in the U.S. House and Senate. The act would call for hydro-fracking to be regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act. Thus fracking would be subject to EPA's permitting process governing the underground injection of other chemicals.

This doesn't sound outlandish except to the oil and gas lobby, which points out that the EPA has none of the bureaucracy in place to accept or evaluate applications for FRAC permits, let alone issue one. If the act were to pass, the effect would be at least a temporary halt to all well fracking nationwide. In a study paid for by the American Petroleum Institute, researchers at IHS Global Insight figured that if well fracturing were halted today, U.S. natural gas production would fall 45% by 2014 and 57% by 2018. A ban would likewise cost 2.9 million jobs and decimate the business of leading frack-jobbers like Schlumberger ( SLB - news - people ), Weatherford and Halliburton ( HAL - news - people ) (which was the primary contractor on Cabot's well).

But that's the worst-case scenario. Assuming there's a (slightly less efficient) frack method that can pass muster with the EPA, the result would be just 10% less gas by 2014. The added cost to the industry would not be too much to bear. The IHS Global study figures that complying with existing rules for underground injections would cost less than $100,000 per well in shale zones. That's not a lot. Analysts at Tudor, Pickering & Holt in Houston figure that Cabot's current drilling costs are running $3 million a well. At $4 per thousand cubic feet Cabot's recent wells can pay that back in six months.

Even the biggest users of hydrofracking, like Aubrey McClendon, chief executive of leading shale driller Chesapeake Energy, concede that the industry needs to "demystify" the practice. Speaking at a conference last week, McClendon, according to Reuters, said, "We need to disclose the chemicals that we are using and search for alternatives to the chemicals we are using."

Chesapeake is keen to tap northern reaches of the Marcellus in the Catskills and Finger Lakes regions of New York State. This area, however, serves as the source of drinking water for New York City. Because of its pristine quality, New York City has been able to forego building a $6 billion water filtration system. Last year, City Comptroller William Thompson said that if water pollution from fracking in the watershed necessitated filtration, it could mean 30% higher water rates for New Yorkers. State politicians' likely revenue source for such a system: a special tax on energy companies.

Last week, nine U.S. senators--a mix of Democrats and Republicans from gas-rich states--sent a letter to Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., who, with Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., is cobbling together the Senate's version of climate change legislation passed by the House earlier this year. In the letter, they reminded Boxer that natural gas, which has roughly half the carbon emissions of coal and 30% less than oil, should be treated as "a vital bridge fuel as we transition to the new energy economy." In exchange for legislation incentivizing expanded gas usage, the senators proposed funding an EPA study of the dangers of hydraulic fracturing to drinking water--the better to help Congress regulate it.

This move might sideline the FRAC Act for now, but should indicate to the likes of Halliburton that they'd better get to work on some new ways to get at all that gas.

Study: Receipts could be harmful to your health

pharmacies, big-box stores and U.S. post offices contain high levels
of the endocrine-disrupting chemical bisphenol A. A study released
late today by the Environmental Working Group reported that a
laboratory analysis it commissioned found the plastic component BPA on
40 percent of receipts from McDonald's, CVS, KFC, Whole Foods, Wal-
Mart, Safeway and other businesses. BPA is used to coat thermal paper,
which reacts with dye to form black print on receipts handled by
millions of Americans every day. In laboratory tests, the chemical has
been linked to a long list of serious health problems in animals.
Several environmental activists, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-
Calif., also have called for removing BPA from canned

EPA Releases Second Phase of Toxicity Testing Data for Eight Oil Dispersants

WASHINGTON —The US Environmental Protection Agency today released peer reviewed results from the second phase of its independent toxicity testing on mixtures of eight oil dispersants with Louisiana Sweet Crude Oil. EPA conducted the tests as part of an effort to ensure that EPA decisions remain grounded in the best available science and data.

EPA’s results indicate that the eight dispersants tested have similar toxicities to one another when mixed with Louisiana Sweet Crude Oil. These results confirm that the dispersant used in response to the oil spill in the gulf, Corexit 9500A, when mixed with oil, is generally no more or less toxic than mixtures with the other available alternatives. The results also indicate that dispersant-oil mixtures are generally no more toxic to the aquatic test species than oil alone.

“EPA has committed to following the science at every stage of this response - that’s why we required BP to launch a rigorous dispersant monitoring program, why we directed BP to analyze potential alternatives and why EPA undertook this independent analysis of dispersant products,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “We have said all along that the use of dispersant presents environmental tradeoffs, which is why we took steps to ensure other response efforts were prioritized above dispersant use and to dramatically cut dispersant use. Dispersant use virtually ended when the cap was placed on the well and its use dropped 72 percent from peak volumes following the joint EPA-U.S. Coast Guard directive to BP in late May.”

The standard acute toxicity tests were conducted on juvenile shrimp and small fish that are found in the gulf and are commonly used in toxicity testing. The tests were conducted on mixtures of Louisiana Sweet Crude Oil and eight different dispersant products found on the National Contingency Plan Product Schedule – Dispersit SPC 1000, Nokomis 3-F4, Nokomis 3-AA, ZI-400, SAFRON Gold, Sea Brat #4, Corexit 9500 A and JD 2000. The same eight dispersants were used during EPA’s first round of independent toxicity testing.

All eight dispersants were found to be less toxic than the dispersant-oil mixture to both test species. Louisiana Sweet Crude Oil was more toxic to mysid shrimp than the eight dispersants when tested alone. Oil alone had similar toxicity to mysid shrimp as the dispersant-oil mixtures, with exception of the mixture of Nokomis 3-AA and oil, which was found to be more toxic than oil.

While there has been virtually no dispersant use since the well was capped on July 15 – only 200 gallons total applied on July 19 – EPA’s environmental monitoring continues.

EPA required rigorous, ongoing monitoring as a condition of authorizing BP’s use of dispersant in the gulf. Dispersants prevent some oil from impacting sensitive areas along the gulf coast. EPA’s position has been that BP should use as little dispersant as necessary and, on May 23, Administrator Jackson and then-federal on-scene coordinator Rear Admiral Mary Landry directed BP to reduce dispersant usage by 75 percent from peak usage. EPA and the Coast Guard formalized that order in a directive to BP on May 26.

Before directing BP to ramp down dispersant use, EPA directed BP to analyze potential alternative dispersants for toxicity and effectiveness. BP reported to EPA that they were unable to find a dispersant that is less toxic than Corexit 9500, the product then in use. Following that, EPA began its own scientific testing of eight dispersant products.

EPA released the first round of data – on the dispersant products alone – on June 30. Today’s results represent the second and final stage of the independent acute toxicity tests.

Legislation that would hold off on drilling permits until the Legislature has time to update our laws has been introduced in both houses. It’s the least our lawmakers can do to protect our drinking water. Call Majority Leader Sampson at 866-403-3551 and Speaker Silver at 866-374-0409 today and ask them to slow the rush to drill.

The Legislature needs to pass legislation to create a time-out on drilling, and they need to do it before they adjourn. Without their action, the Department of Environmental Conservation could begin issuing permits to drill by year’s end using a fatally flawed plan that is not protective of our communities or water.

Already the Big-Oil and Gas Guys (The BO&GGs or BOGG's) are disparging this idea, making up all kinds of negative stuff about it,...like "we" dont get enough sun," ..."too much space," and "too expensive." Well this will be bad news for them. This industry is so far advanced that they are making them as thin as paper! They are working on a way to make it so you can print them up off of your computer at home! I"m not kidding, look it up. The idea is to put them in masss-production so that we can buy them on the cheap @ any WalMart$ someday. With this new innovation, the solar energy business is going to take off like a (pardon the pun) "rocket in the sun." Mysterious illness killing puffer fish

A wildlife disease specialist with the US Geological Survey said his
office has received at least 100 reports of dead puffer fish from
across the state in the last 6 months.

Dying puffer fish were discovered in Kona back in February [2010].
Reports of dead puffers were coming from Maui in May. Recently, the
puffer fish have been washing ashore in Kaneohe Bay and Kailua beach
here [Honolulu] on Oahu.

The sick and dying puffer fish have been found with lesions on the
skin, but it's what they're finding on the inside that has
researchers alarmed. "We're seeing things like enlarged livers,
enlarged swim bladders, which is the organ that allows them to
float," said the US wildlife disease specialist Theirry Work.

Work and his staff have been able to analyze only 14 sick puffer fish
so far and they're baffled by what is killing them.

Right now, they're leaning towards some type of virus or toxicosis.

"We really need to sort out what it is that's killing them. Once we
sort out the cause, we can decide if it can affect other fish or
not," said Work.

The illness appears to be affecting the striped puffer fish the most,
followed by the porcupine puffer fish. Researchers are asking for the
public to be on the lookout for these sick fish. They ask if you find
one, to put it on ice and report it to your local aquatics resources office.

"You'll see these fish either floating and can't submerge and they
just don't look right, or if they're on the beach, their gills will
be moving a little bit," said Work. "As long as there's a little bit
of movement in those fish, they're super fresh and we can use them.
If they've sitting on the beach a while, they're too decomposed and
we can't do much with them."

[There are about 100 species of puffer fish. Most puffer fish are
found in sub-tropical and tropical marine waters in the Atlantic,
Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Some puffers live in brackish and fresh water.

The puffer fish is also known as the blowfish, fugu, swellfish, and
globefish. It is called the puffer fish because when it is
threatened, it puffs up to about twice its normal size by gulping
water. In this engorged state, the puffer fish can swim at only about
half its normal speed.

Any number of toxins in the water may be causing the problem, or
perhaps a different concentration of an agent. A water analysis may
be helpful. Also, it may be helpful to know if their food source has
changed: is it less or more abundant? What about water temperatures
as compared to previous years?

Many parts of the blowfish (including the liver, muscles, skin, and
ovaries) contain an extremely strong, paralyzing poison called
tetrodoxin. This poison is about a thousand times deadlier than
cyanide. There is no known antidote for this poison. Fugu (torafugu
or _Fugu rubripes_, Japanese puffer fish) is eaten in Japan, but is
only cooked by specially-trained chefs who can minimize the amount of
poison. Even so, many Japanese diners have died from eating this
poisonous delicacy.

The poison found in puffer fish, blowfish, balloon fish, toads,
sunfish, porcupine fish, toadfish, globefish, and swellfish is a
tetrodotoxin. This is one of the most toxic poisons found in nature.
Most people who eat puffer fish do so intentionally; puffer fish are
considered an Asian delicacy, served in some types of sushi and
sashimi. Unless the chef is specially trained to cut the meat in a
particular fashion, the dish may contain a large amount of the toxin.
Puffer fish poisoning is similar to paralytic shellfish poisoning.

DEP Orders EOG Resources to Halt All Natural Gas Drilling Activities in PA

HARRISBURG -- The Department of Environmental Protection today ordered EOG Resources Inc. to suspend its natural gas well drilling activities in Pennsylvania after a June 3 blowout at one of the company’s Clearfield County wells sent natural gas and at least 35,000 gallons of drilling wastewater into the sky and over the ground for 16 hours.

DEP Secretary John Hanger said that while the order bans all drilling and hydrofracturing, or fracking, operations for specified periods of time, the suspension will remain in effect until DEP has completed a comprehensive investigation into the leak and the company has implemented any needed changes.

“DEP staff, along with an independent expert, will conduct a detailed investigation of not just the incident that occurred last week in Clearfield County, but of EOG Resources’ drilling operations, as a whole, here in Pennsylvania,” said Hanger. “The Clearfield County incident presented a serious threat to life and property. We are working with the company to review its Pennsylvania drilling operations fully from beginning to end to ensure an incident of this nature does not happen again.”

The order prohibits EOG Resources from drilling activities up to seven days; from engaging in fracking operations up to 14 days; and from completing or initiating post-fracking operations for 30 days in any wells throughout the state. These actions and operations cannot resume until the department agrees that the investigation has been fully completed.

The results of the investigation will also help determine whether DEP should take additional enforcement action against the company, such as fines or penalties.

Hanger added that EOG Resources has been fully cooperative and in agreement with the department’s ongoing investigation and order.

The leak began at approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, when the well’s operators lost control of it while preparing to extract gas after fracking the shale. As a result, natural gas and flowback frack fluid was released uncontrollably onto the ground and 75 feet into the air. The well was capped at around noon on June 4.
The EOG well pad is located in a rural area near the Penfield/Route 153 exit of Interstate 80 in northwestern Clearfield County, near Moshannon State Forest.

The department’s Emergency Response and Oil and Gas programs responded to the incident, along with the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, and local fire and police departments.

PEMA elevated its activation level to coordinate resources among multiple state agencies and worked with PennDOT and the Federal Aviation Administration to institute a temporary airspace restriction above the well. The restriction was lifted at approximately 1:45 p.m. on June 4.

“Fortunately, the well did not ignite and explode, and there were no injuries to the well crew or emergency responders,” said Hanger. “Our preliminary assessment is that the environmental damage was modest as the frack fluid was contained and did not appear to reach any streams, but DEP is continuing its monitoring efforts because sometimes the impacts of a spill like this are delayed. We have noted that a spring in the area has shown a spike in conductivity and that discharge is being collected by EOG for proper disposal.”

The secretary noted that the company expects to have a more accurate estimate of the amount of fracking water that was leaked after it finishes draining the pits and waterboxes it deployed to collect the fluids. As of June 7, initial estimates totaled 35,000 gallons, although more was certainly released and the company believes this accounts for a majority of the leaked water.

DEP’s preliminary investigation has determined that a blowout preventer on the well failed, but the agency does not yet know if that failure was the main cause of the incident. The blowout preventer has been secured and will be one piece of the investigation.

EOG Resources, formerly known as Enron Oil & Gas Co., operates approximately 265 active wells in Pennsylvania, 117 of which are in the Marcellus Shale formation.

Pa Fracking Fluid Contain Neurologically Harmful Chemicals

MARC LEVY HuffPost 06/28/10 07:30 PM HARRISBURG, Pa. — More than two years after the start of a natural gas drilling boom, Pennsylvania is making public a complete list of the chemicals used to extract the gas from deep underground amid rising public fears of potential water contamination and increased scrutiny of the fast-growing industry. Compounds associated with neurological problems, cancer and other serious health effects are among the chemicals being used to drill the wells, although state and industry officials say there is no evidence that the activity is polluting drinking water. The Associated Press obtained the list from the state Department of Environmental Protection, which assembled what is believed to be the first complete catalog of chemicals being used to drill in Pennsylvania's gas-rich Marcellus Shale. The department hopes to post it online soon. It counts more than 80 chemicals being used by the industry in a process called hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," as it pursues the gas in the mile-deep shale. Many of the compounds are present in consumer products, such as salt, cosmetics, gasoline, pesticides, solvents, glues, paints and tobacco smoke. Environmental advocates worry the chemicals are poisoning underground drinking water sources. However, environmental officials say they know of no examples in Pennsylvania or elsewhere. "If we thought there was any frack fluid getting into fresh drinking water ... I think we'd have to have a very serious conversation about prohibiting the activity completely," said Scott Perry, the director of the department's Bureau of Oil and Gas Management. Conrad Volz, who directs the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, said state and federal agencies haven't done enough research to come to that conclusion. A decades-old technology, hydraulic fracturing was coming under increased scrutiny even before the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Its spread from states such as Texas, Colorado and Wyoming to heavily populated watersheds on the East Coast has led to worries about water contamination and calls for federal regulation. Hydraulic fracturing is exempt from the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, leaving states to regulate the activity. In New York state, regulators have effectively held up drilling on the Marcellus Shale while they consider new regulations. Last year, they published a list of more than 250 chemicals that could potentially be used there. In Pennsylvania, where approximately 1,500 Marcellus Shale wells have been drilled and many thousands more are expected in the coming years, the state is working to buttress its regulations even as rigs poke holes in large swaths of the state. Last week, HBO aired a documentary called "Gasland" that portrayed the natural gas industry as an environmental menace that spoils water, air and lives. The industry has challenged the film's veracity, saying it botches facts, exaggerates evidence and spotlights citizens whose claims already have been investigated and debunked. Pennsylvania assembled the list in recent months from information the industry is required to disclose and decided to prepare it for the public as public interest grew, Perry said. Industry officials say the chemicals pose no threat because they are handled safely and are heavily diluted when they are injected under heavy pressure with water and sand into a well. Industry officials say the chemicals account for less than 1 percent of the fluid that is blasted underground. The mixture breaks up the shale some 5,000 to 8,000 feet down and props open the cracks to allow the gas trapped inside to flow up the well to the surface. One compound, naphthalene, is classified by the federal Environmental Protection Agency as a possible human carcinogen. The EPA said central nervous system depression has been reported in people who get high levels of toluene by deliberately inhaling paint or glue. In its online guidelines on xylene, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration cites an industrial hygiene and toxicology text that says chronic exposure to xylene may cause central nervous system depression, anemia, liver damage and more. The chemicals are used to reduce friction, kill algae and break down mineral deposits in the well. Various well services firms make different proprietary blends of the solutions and supply them to the drilling companies, which blend them with water at the well site before pumping them underground. In recent years, some makers of the solutions have sought to replace toxic ingredients with "green" or food-based additives. For instance, Range Resources Corp., one of the most active drilling companies in Pennsylvania, is close to rolling out a 100 percent biodegradable friction reducer, spokesman Matt Pitzarella said Monday.

"New Orleans, which managed to escape the oil from the BP spill for more than two months, can't hide any longer.

"For the first time since the accident, oil from the ruptured well is seeping into Lake Pontchartrain, threatening another environmental disaster for the huge body of water that was rescued from pollution in 1990s to become, once more, a bountiful fishing ground and a popular spot for boating and swimming.

"Over the July Fourth weekend, tar balls and an oil sheen pushed by strong winds from faraway Hurricane Alex slipped past lines of barges that were supposed to block the passes connecting the Gulf of Mexico to the lake.

"State authorities closed the lake's eastern reaches to fishing on Monday, though most of it remained open. Barges were lined up at bayous and passes to stop the oil from coming in, and cleanup crews Tuesday used nets to collect tar balls from marinas and docks. They also planned to lay out 9,000 feet of special permeable booms. But the lake was too choppy for skimmer vessels to operate.

"About 1,700 pounds of oily waste has been collected, said Suzanne Parsons Stymiest, a spokeswoman for St. Tammany Parish."

Oil seeps into New Orleans' Lake Pontchartrain

NEW ORLEANS - The amount of oil infiltrating 600-square-mile Lake Pontchartrain (pronounced PAHN-chuh-trayn) appears small so far. And tests on seafood have not turned up any oil contamination, said Brian Lezina, a state biologist. But the pollution is distressing to the many people in Louisiana who have a deep attachment to the lake.

"You won't hear songs about a lot of the marshes in south Louisiana, but you will hear songs about Lake Pontchartrain," Lezina said.

Out in the Gulf, meanwhile, stormy weather kept skimmers from working offshore Tuesday for yet another day and delayed the hookup of a big new ship intended to suck more crude from the gushing well. Also, the arrival of a Navy blimp intended to hover above the relief effort was delayed until Friday.

Tar balls from the spill also washed up on Texas beaches over the holiday weekend, meaning the disaster now touches all five Gulf Coast states, spanning more than 500 miles of coastline.

Lake Pontchartrain, named for the French count of Pontchartrain during the reign of Louis XIV, is on the northern edge of the city. It is connected to the Gulf of Mexico by two main passes: the Rigolets, a winding passage of about 10 miles, and the Chef Menteur, around nine miles long.

For centuries, it has been a playground, a source of seafood and a backdoor route to New Orleans for invading British troops and hurricane storm surge.

Until the 1970s, its shores were a top destination for city folks who took streetcars and buses to the lake to swim and to dine at restaurants that cooked up the lake's crabs and other seafood. They played in penny arcades and rode the Zephyr roller coaster at the Pontchartrain Beach amusement park.

But pollution shut down the swimming and chased away marine life, and the amusement park closed in the early 1980s.

The lake's restoration included a ban on commercial clam dredging and new regulations governing urban runoff. Slowly, the lake revived. In recent years, sightings of dolphins and manatees have delighted locals, and commercial and recreational fishing is thriving.

About 60 commercial fishermen catch blue crabs and shrimp in the lake, and scores of sport fishermen can be found on any given day reeling in speckled trout, redfish, flounder, black drum and sheepshead.

"Even the people involved in the restoration didn't believe it could be restored. It was completely written off. It was thought to be an impossible task," said John Lopez, a scientist with the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, which led the restoration effort. "It has been a dramatic turnabout."

The oil could be the second setback in five years. Hurricane Katrina knocked out seafood docks and lakeside restaurants in 2005. The lake's water quality also took a hit when the Army Corps of Engineers drained the city's contaminated floodwaters into the lake.

"So far, this stuff has been offshore for the majority of the population in the southeastern portion of Louisiana," Anne Rheams, executive director of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, said of the oil spill. "This is bringing it closer to home."

Gerica, like the dozens of other commercial fishermen who use the lake, planned to pick up his crab traps as soon as the weather cleared.

Anthony Montalbano Jr., the chef and owner of II Tony's, an Italian seafood restaurant next to the lake, said it has been a struggle to stay open. Katrina swamped his restaurant at Bucktown, a lakeside community in New Orleans that has the feel of a bayou town.

"This was going to be our best year since Katrina for sure, but not now," Montalbano said as the TV in the bar showed an ad for a law firm suing BP.

Scientists: Oil leaking up to 2.52M gallons daily

(AP:NEW ORLEANS) Scientists provided a new estimate for the amount of oil gushing from a ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday that indicates it could be worse than previously thought.

A government panel of scientists said that the ruptured well is leaking between 1.47 million and 2.52 million gallons a day of oil. That is an increase over previous estimates that put the maximum size of the spill at 2.1 million gallons per day.

"This estimate brings together several scientific methodologies and the latest information from the sea floor, and represents a significant step forward in our effort to put a number on the oil that is escaping from BP's well," Energy Secretary Steven Chu said in a statement.

The latest numbers reflect an increase in the flow that scientists believe happened after undersea robots earlier this month cut off a kinked pipe near the sea floor that was believed to be restricting the flow of oil, just as a bend in a garden hose reduces water flow. BP officials has estimated that cutting the kinked pipe likely increased the flow by up 20 percent.

The pipe was removed so BP could install a containment cap that is trapping leaking oil and drawing it a ship waiting on the ocean surface.

The new numbers are based on a combination of scientific data, including an analysis of high-resolution video taken by underwater robots, pressure meters, sonar, and measurements of oil collected by the containment device on top of the well.

It is the fourth _ and perhaps not last _ time the federal government has had to increase its estimate of how much oil is gushing. At one point, the federal government claimed only 42,000 gallons were spilling a day and then it upped the number to 210,000 gallons.

For days now, Dr Damon Dietrich has seen patients come through his
emergency room at West Jefferson Medical Center [Louisiana] with
similar symptoms: respiratory problems, headaches and nausea.

In the past week, 11 workers who have been out on the water cleaning
up oil from BP's blown-out well have been treated for what Dietrich
calls "a pattern of symptoms" that could have been caused by the
burning of crude oil, noxious fumes from the oil or the dispersants
dumped in the Gulf to break it up. All workers were treated and
released.

"One person comes in, it could be multiple things," he said. "Eleven
people come in with these symptoms, it makes it incredibly suspicious."

Few studies have examined long-term health effects of oil exposure.
But some of the workers trolling Gulf Coast beaches and heading out
into the marshes and waters have complained about flu-like symptoms --
a similar complaint among crews deployed for the 1989 Exxon Valdez
spill in Alaska.

BP and US Coast Guard officials have said dehydration, heat, food
poisoning, or other unrelated factors may have caused the workers'
symptoms. The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is
investigating.

Brief contact with small amounts of light crude oil and dispersants
are not harmful. Swallowing small amounts of oil can cause an upset
stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea. Long-term exposure to dispersants,
however, can cause central nervous system problems, or do damage to
blood, kidneys or livers, according to the Centers For Disease Control
and Prevention.

In the 6 weeks since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded, killing 11
workers, an estimated 21 million to 45 million gallons [95 million-170
million liters] of crude has poured into the Gulf of Mexico. Hundreds
of BP contractors have fanned out along the Gulf, deploying boom,
spraying chemicals to break up the oil, picking up oil-soaked debris
and trying to keep the creeping slick out of the sensitive marshes and
away from the tourist-Mecca beaches.

A particular commercial fisherman spent a night on a vessel near the
source of the spill and left complaining of a severe headache, upset
stomach, and nose bleed. He was treated at the hospital, and sued --
becoming part of a class-action lawsuit filed last month [May 2010] in
US District Court in New Orleans against BP, Transocean, and their
insurers.

This fisherman, who was part of a crew burning oil, believes planes
were spraying dispersant in the middle of the night -- something BP
disputes.

"I began to ache all over ..." he said in the affidavit. "I was
completely unable to function at this point and feared that I was
seriously ill." Dozens of complaints, most from spill workers, have
been made related to oil exposure with the Louisiana Department of
Health and Hospitals, said spokeswoman Olivia Watkins, as well as with
the Louisiana Poison Center, clinics, and hospitals. Workers are being
told to follow federal guidelines that recommend anyone involved in
oil spill cleanup wear protective equipment such as gloves, safety
glasses, and clothing.

Michael J. Schneider, an attorney who decided against filing a
class-action lawsuit in the 1990s involving the Valdez workers, said
proving a link between oil exposure and health problems is very
difficult. "As a human being you listen to enough and you've got to
believe they're true," he said. "The problem is the science may not be
there to support them ... Many of the signs and symptoms these people
complained of are explainable for a dozen different reasons -- it's
certainly coincidental they all shared a reason in common."

Similar to the Valdez cleanup, there have been concerns in the Gulf
that workers aren't being supplied with enough protective gear.
Workers have been spotted in white jumpsuits, gloves, and booties but
no goggles or respirators.

"If they're out there getting lightheaded and dizzy every day then
obviously they ought to come in, and there should be respirators and
other equipment provided," said LuAnn White, director of the Tulane
Center for Applied Environmental Public Health. She added that most of
the volatile components that could sicken people generally evaporate
before the oil reaches shore.

BP PLC's chief operating officer Doug Suttles said reports of workers
getting sick are being investigated but noted that no one has
pinpointed the cause. Suttles said workers were being given "any
safety equipment" needed to do their jobs safely.

Unlike with Exxon Valdez, in the Gulf, the oil has been lighter, the
temperatures warm and humid, and there have been hundreds of thousands
of gallons of chemicals used to break up the oil.

Court records showed more than 6700 workers involved in the Exxon
Valdez clean up suffered respiratory problems which the company
attributed to a viral illness, not chemical poisoning.

Only one attorney representing a Valdez worker was known to
successfully settle with Exxon over health issues. According to the
terms of that confidential settlement, Exxon did not admit fault. This
attorney's client spent 4 months lifting workers in a crane for 18
hours a day as they sprayed the oil-slicked beaches with hot water,
which created an oily mist. Even though he had to wipe clean his
windshield twice a day, the worker said it never occurred to him that
the mixture might be harming his lungs.

Within weeks, he and others, who wore little to no protective gear,
were coughing and experiencing other symptoms that were eventually
nicknamed Valdez crud. Now 60, the worker cannot get through a short
conversation without coughing and gasping for breath like a drowning
man. He sometimes needs the help of a breathing machine and inhalers,
and has to be careful not to choke when he drinks and eats. Watching
the Gulf situation unfold, he says, makes him sick. "I just watch this
stuff everyday and know these people are on the very first rung on the
ladder and are going to go through a lot of misery," said the Valdez
worker, who now lives in Prescott, Arizona.

[The Gulf of Mexico is very different from Alaska and the Valdez
spill. The Gulf is hot and humid, which can take a toll on the body
before the conscious mind is aware of it. Dehydration is a large
factor, and can occur before a person is aware of it in hot and humid
environments. Symptoms of dehydration can include light-headedness and
dizziness, also fatigue.

In this kind of heat the volatile hydrocarbons [in the oil] would have
dissipated. Perhaps the issue is not the oil but the dispersants, as
noted by the CDC above.

Some smells are more offensive to some people [than others]. Oil and
saltwater and heat have a peculiar smell, and while offensive, it may
not in itself be harmful, but the perception combined with the heat
and dehydration may lead to a distorted picture. Likewise, it may be
the chemical dispersants associated with the smells, which may be even
more unpleasant. Workers spending much time in protective equipment
are even more susceptible to dehydration.

I do not know what chemicals or microbes are being used to cause
dispersion of the oil, so it is impossible for me to comment on those

Health officials in the Sarnia area are investigating a serious
parasitic outbreak among people who attended a charity cooking event
on 12 May 2010.

About 400 people attended the Chef's Challenge event held by the
local Big Sisters charity, and as of Wednesday [2 Jun 2010], more
than 70 people have reported becoming ill.

Seven people have been confirmed as having cyclospora after lab tests.

Cyclospora is a one-cell parasite that infects the small intestine
and spreads through contaminated food or water. If not treated, the
illness can last from a few days to a month or longer.

Lambton Community Health spokeswoman Lori Lucas says symptoms include
stomach cramps, watery diarrhea, vomiting, body aches, headache,
fever, fatigue, loss of appetite and weight loss.

Mutant fungus threatens global wheat supply

Four new mutations of Ug99, a strain of a deadly wheat pathogen known
as stem rust, have overcome existing sources of genetic resistance
developed to safeguard the world's wheat crop. Leading experts at a
global event organized by the Borlaug Global Rust Initiative, said the
evolving pathogen may pose an even greater threat to global wheat
production than the original Ug99.

The new "races" have acquired the ability to defeat 2 of the most
important stem rust-resistance genes. "With the new mutations,
countries cannot afford to wait," said Ravi Singh, International Maize
and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). "Already, most of the varieties
worldwide are vulnerable to the original form of Ug99. We will now
have to make sure that every new wheat variety has iron-clad
resistance to both Ug99 and the new races."

New mutations identified in South Africa will make wheat crops more
vulnerable as pathogens now will find new wind trajectories for
migration. "We do not have as much information as we would like on the
aggressiveness of the pathogen," said David Hodson, FAO. "The original
Ug99 does not seem to have increased as much as originally feared. But
the new variants pose a grave challenge."

Wealthy farmers have chemicals for dealing with wheat rust, but
chemical control is costly and unaffordable for most resource-poor
farmers. The best strategy is replacement of susceptible varieties
with new resistant varieties. CIMMYT and ICARDA [International Centre
for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas], in collaboration with
countries under threat, have developed high-yielding Ug99-resistant
varieties that are now being distributed in the most threatened areas.

[Wheat stem rust is caused by the fungus _Puccinia graminis_ f. sp.
_tritici_. Overall yield losses of up to 80 percent are reported, but
some fields are totally destroyed. New races are emerging, and the
most dangerous at present is strain Ug99 (discovered in Uganda in
1999) which has overcome the major resistance gene Sr31 used in our
current wheat varieties. Since then Ug99 has appeared in Kenya,
Ethiopia, Sudan, Yemen, and Iran, and even more virulent variants of
Ug99 able to overcome additional resistance genes have emerged.

It is estimated that Ug99 could reduce world wheat production by 60
million tons and the pathogen is considered a global threat to food
security. Resistance breeding programmes have been set up with
international cooperation (Delhi Declaration, see link below) to
establish wheat varieties resistant to Ug99.

Rust spores are carried on prevailing winds, and regions at high risk
of a Ug99 incursion were identified accordingly to the east of Uganda
in the Middle East and South Asia. With a new source of Ug99 strains
now reported in South Africa, additional routes of aerial transmission
have opened up increasing the threat to regions in the southern
hemisphere. It is suggested that at least one new strain in South
Africa may be an introduction rather than a mutation from local races,
and this poses the question of where the source may be and how the
incursion may have occurred.

BPs PartiaL Capping Method is WRONGWAY to Go, Will Further Damage Environment But Benefits BP Now & in the Long Run

Comment on BPs FB site, from someone who seems to think like me, that the only reason BP is "proceeding" as it is (trying to "partially" cap instead of to crimp it entirely closed) is because they want to keep the pressure line open so they can continue sucking some of the oil up (BP claims they are sucking up approx 5,000 gal per day,...some one should check them on that) and loading it into their ships. Also the method they are using will leave the flow open some AND LEAKING so BP can come back at a later time and make more money from that well

Oil spill trims U.S. offshore natural gas supply as MMS Closes Two Energy Production Platforms in Gulf

HOUSTON, May 1, 2010 (Reuters) — The government on Saturday said two offshore production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico were shut as a safety precaution -- the first sign that the giant oil slick was affecting the region's energy production.

The Minerals Management Service -- the arm of the Interior Department that oversees offshore oil and gas activity -- said the two platforms were shut down as a safety precaution due to the oilspill.

They account for less than 0.1 percent of daily Gulf of Mexico output. Some 6.2 million cubic feet per day of natural gas production are involved, the service said.

The MMS did not identify the names or companies that own the affected platforms, and said more platform shutdowns may be ordered as the spill spreads eastward.

"Yes, there's always the possibility of that," MMS spokeswoman Eileen Angelico said, when asked if more shutdowns were possible.

Analysts downplayed the impact of the spill on offshore energy production. The spill's trajectory is closer to land and away from more prolific deepwater production platforms, experts said.

"It shouldn't affect production too dramatically," said Dan Pickering, co-president of Tudor Pickering Holt & Co. "It doesn't feel like there's imminent danger around the production itself."

MORATORIUM ON DRILLING?

The bigger issue is whether the spill would prompt a moratorium on drilling, Pickering said.

"The implications here are the ongoing impact to the industry overall and how this becomes a significant influence on how people think of offshore activity," he said.

Spokesmen for big offshore producers Apache Corp and Anadarko Petroleum Corp said their operations have were unaffected by the spill.

The Anadarko-operated Independence Hub, the largest natural gas processing facility in the Gulf with capacity to produce 1 billion cubic feet per day of gas, is well southeast of the spill and out of its path, spokesman John Christiansen said.

The rig Deepwater Horizon, owned by Transocean Ltd, sank on April 22, two days after it exploded and caught fire while finishing a well for BP Plc 42 miles off the Louisiana coast.

The companies and the U.S. government are in the process of trying to seal the leaking oil well.

On Monday, an offshore drilling rig owned by Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc that had been working near a sunken rig was evacuated as a precaution, an MMS official said.

The last event to affect offshore production was hurricanes Ike and Gustav in 2008, which shut down nearly all the region's output for weeks.
